Hostess with the Mostest

Do you ever feel like March can be kind of a “blah” month? It’s definitely my least favourite time of the year. It’s been cold for months, but we still have a ways to go before it’s officially spring. Therefore, I always try to bring some excitement into March by throwing a small party to celebrate spring’s imminent arrival. In today’s blog I’ll be showcasing all of my party essentials so you too can become “The Hostess with the Mostest”.

As always, Willow Park Village is my one stop shop for everything on my shopping list!

Springbank Cheese Co.

When I’m entertaining, I like to do as much prep beforehand as possible, while serving up yummy snacks that everyone enjoys! Recently I’ve been serving a lot of charcuterie boards – they are simple to prepare and SO delicious. Good cheese is the key ingredient to an amazing charcuterie board, so of course I went straight to Springbank Cheese Co. at WPV. The staff is so helpful, and I learn so much every time I go in. They shared a trick with me that I must share with all of you: Prep your charcuterie tray the night before and wrap it twice with saran-wrap, BUT make sure to wrap the crackers separately so they don’t go soft. As a busy mom, this trick saves me so much time – I pull my charcuterie board out of the fridge moments before my guests arrive!

North Sea Fish Market

I love the selection that North Sea Fish Market has to offer, ranging from its gourmet prepared food, to its organic meats and seafood selection! Since I’m offering a charcuterie board, I wanted to serve an easy-to-eat seafood option alongside it. And who doesn’t love shrimp cocktail? Not only is this dish easy to prepare, but it’s easy to eat as my guest mingle between the kitchen and living room!

Let’s be honest, food is key when it comes to throwing a party, so I always want to have lots on hand! I went to Meez Cuisine to pick up some of their delicious appetizers (because you can never have too many). My favourites are the mini crab cakes with caper dill dip, thai chicken wrapped in filo, and the mini leek and brie tarts. Anytime I have people over, they’re always a huge hit, so I always make sure to have them at the top of my list.

And of course, every party needs a sweet treat. Meez Cuisine carries Cochu Chocolate by Anne Sellmer, an award-winning Master Chocolatier. The chocolates are truly amazing and (almost) too pretty to eat!

What is a party without wine? I never know what wine will pair best with the food I’m serving, so I always pay a visit to Willow Park Wines and Spirits. The staff is so helpful and always give me the best recommendations! It is definitely my favourite liquor store in the city!

There you have it – my ultimate list to become “The Hostess with the Mostest”. Trust me, after this party, everyone will be begging you to throw another one! Have a great March everyone!

Until next time,

XO Willow
